Pip Ryan 'Relive it Again'

Pip Ryan
Relive it Again
4 - 21 July 2012

The abject nature of horror is one that consists of a number of conflicting emotions. We are often simultaneously repelled and drawn to this subject matter. It titillates, excites, mesmerises and terrorises. Pip Ryan’s work explores the role humour plays within horror through reconfigurations of everyday objects and toys. She is interested in how these two states of consciousness can, and often do overlap.

Pip Ryan has recently completed her Masters of Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts with the assistance of an Australian Postgraduate Award. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally in group and solo exhibitions. Recent solo shows include Masters Exhibitions 2011 at the Victorian College of the Arts, Collective Bad Luck at West Space, Machine Compilation 15 at the Melbourne Propaganda window. Recent group exhibitions include Locus of Control at Nellie Castan Gallery, Collaborators and Saboteurs at the Mildura Palimpsest Biennale, The Melbourne Connection, curated by Sherry McLane Alejos at Museo de la ciudad de Leon in Mexico, Sex, Death and Violence at Blindside Gallery and Prosthetic Animal, curated by Veronica Kent at Cube 37. Recent awards include the National Gallery of Victoria Women’s Association Award and the Daine Singer Award 2011.
