In her most recent body of work, Alice Wormald has created paintings in which there is a concentrated investigation and subsequent distortion of aspects of the natural world, which are heightened in order to eschew the naturalistic or the real. Based on arrangements of cut-out natural imagery from books and magazines, these compositions transform into strange landscapes through their reconfiguration into a painted surface.
Alice has a BFA with first class honours from the VCA. She has held solo exhibitions including: In the Unreal Air, Blindside 2012; Occluded View, Daine Singer 2012; and Wayside & Hedgerow at Shifted Gallery in 2010, and has participated in group exhibitions including Recent Work, George Paton Gallery; Debut VII, Blindside; and High Definition, Paradise Hills. She has been the recipient of awards including the Fiona Myer Award, the Casama Group Award and the National Gallery of Victoria Women’s Association Award and is currently a finalist in the John Leslie Prize. Her work is held in collections including the Fiona Myer Collection and Joyce Nissan Collection as well as private collections in Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland.
